Filtering Out The Unwanted: What Extrusion Filter Packs Remove

An extrusion filter pack is key for filtering anything you push through an extruder. Given what most extruders push out, you may be wondering why you need filters at all. However, upon closer inspection, you may find that what the filters disallow in the extruded product is well worth the investment and installation in extrusion packs. See for yourself. 

Stuff That Accidentally Fell into the Materials Vat

Manufacturing processes are no strangers to the weird stuff that sometimes falls into or sneaks its way into the materials used to make products. If the products your plant makes has large open vats of solids or semisolid materials, then you know that there is always a chance that something could fall in and contaminate the materials used in production. The extrusion filters prevent these objects from becoming part of the final extruded product. Objects include hair, fingernails, vermin, bugs, and bits of metal that may have fallen from the ceiling or any overarching pipes near the vat.

Chunks of Material That Have Already Hardened or Chunks That Did Not Melt

Every so often, the materials pushed through an extruder are not fully melted to the point where they can be pushed through. There are also times when chunks of materials have already solidified, making it impossible for the extruder to push anything through. The filters catch these hard bits of material so that they do not end up in the final product, sticking out at all angles. Through this, the filters greatly improve the level of quality of the product produced. 

Excess Liquid

Excess liquid is not something you might think of when you think about extruders and extrusion filter packs, but given that there are some materials that can end up with too much water or oil in them, you would want to press out the excess liquid before or while extruding. An extra-fine filter for a thicker material in the machine allows for the flow of excess liquid out of the extruder's exit port before the actual product is extruded. By squeezing out extra liquid, the product created by the extruder machine has a chance to dry and/or harden better and faster than a wetter or oilier product. 

Swapping out Filters Rapidly

If you want to accomplish more than one task with the filters, it is possible to layer them while in use and gradually remove each filter after each task is complete. You could also install one filter at a time and then swap it out for another filter of a different size. Initially, it might take some time to figure out how to best work with the filters to get excellent results, but then you can formulate the "best use" system and stick with it.
